Why Fear Is Actually Your Best Friend

Every time we’re faced with public speaking fear, we think we have 2 options:

Fight or flight.

For most people, our natural instinct is to either run away from our fears or attempt to fight it by pushing it away.

What tends to be neglected and forgotten about is the 3rd option – to change your relationship with fear…

Sshh! Here’s A Little Secret About Your Fear Of Public Speaking

I’m going to let you in on a little secret – your fear of public speaking is actually your secret messenger.

Bear with me for a moment and let me explain.

It’s your secret messenger because it’s your body’s way of telling you that whatever you’re going through that’s putting you in this situation of fear is meaningful.

It’s something that you need to confront – and it’s by going through with it that you’ll have the biggest breakthrough.

Here’s an example to highlight this point:

As you can see from the video above, I’m at a different setting to where my videos are usually shot.

I’m on beautiful Salt Spring Island attending a 10-day breathwork facilitator training.

And I’ll be honest with you — I wasn’t enjoying it.

I had three nights in a row where I just woke up at 2:00 AM all anxious, panicking and thinking, “I’ve committed for so long. What’s going to happen? I’m going to hate this“, and I’d force myself to go outside and calm down.

I was dreading the course, but also had a fear that I was going to walk away from a course that I’d paid all this money for.

But then I thought about it properly – “Wait a minute, this is something that I need to step into because if it’s coming up here, it’s going to be holding me back in other areas of my life. It’s going to affect my ability to step into my power as I’m speaking on stage, as I’m getting on videos etc.

Embrace Your Fears As An Exciting Opportunity

Every time I start working with my clients, the first thing I see is their fear of public speaking coming up.

Their natural instinct is to run, and it’s a pattern that’s usually been reinforced for 10, 15 or 20 years. Sometimes even more.

But as a result of continuously avoiding their fears, their fear keeps growing. It hides in the basement of your mind and continues to lift weights and grow stronger until one day, it’s strong enough to break out of the door you’ve locked it behind.

And that’s when you’ll see things like deep depression, anxiety attacks and other forms of disease.

I’ve been through that myself for 15 years. And I wouldn’t wish it upon anyone else.

So if there’s one shift you make from today’s post, it’s for you to change your relationship with fear.

Instead of seeing it as something to run away from, see it as something to embrace.

Instead of seeing fear as something to run away from,
see it as something to embrace.

See it as an exciting opportunity for you to lean into. To move forward with and breakthrough so you can live closer to your true potential.

See fear as your best friend, who’s always there with you 24/7, encouraging you to become a better version of yourself by telling you what you need to hear before anybody else does.

If you can do that, there’s one thing I can promise you – it’s going to level up your sense of personal power, your confidence and your ability to share your message.

And as a byproduct, you’ll make a bigger impact.

Fear is always the greatest before you take action, but after you face it, you’ll look back and go, “I’m so glad I did it. It’s moved me to the next level and honestly, looking back at it now, I don’t even know why I was so scared in the first place.

So the next time that fear of public speaking comes up, explore it. Look into it going, “Why is there fear? What’s behind it?

Then take action to face it.
